Extremely rare and collectible 1960’s MidCentury Modern Fun Costume Jewelry by the master designer Kenneth Jay Lane. Signed, “K.J.L.” (an early inscription at the start of Kenneth Lane’s artistic career). This 2 7/8” long, 1/2” wide, 22 stone (ruby or garnet-like look crystals set to fine jewelry standards in secure and stylish 4 pronged settings for each of the 22 stones of this Barrette/Hair Piece). Weighs 1/2 ounce. These are faceceted fun fashion stones whose materials didn’t cost much for the maker, Kenneth J. Lane, yet he fashioned his jewelry as if it were a high jewelry dupe. The deep purple of each stone is opaque in color, almost looking funereal. Though made in the 1960’s, this is sort of a throwback to the livid 1920’s flapper styles of the Roaring 20’s. The high value of this piece is because it dates to Lane’s early first efforts in the 1960’s of which there are few remaining examples in existence and the condition is like new mint.
